The material we selected as the heat radiation material is thin film having Functionally Graded Material (FGM）. FGM is not the conventional material having uniform structure, but the material which has continuously-varying composition of different materials in their content ratio of each material from one surface to another surface gradually increasing or decreasing.
We succeeded in manufacturing thin film of FGM by using the special equipment we developed through surface treatment of diamond particles having high thermal conductivity and metal materials such as nickel, copper or silver having good machinability.
In case of the thin film material obtained by FGM manufacturing method we developed, we can modify its shape easily according to the requirements of customers. In case of the conventional FGM in the market, as most of them are in the form of laminas, the troubles such as formation of cracks or delamination have been occurring frequently at processing. Our developed material has no laminar structure, so we need not worry about formation of its breakage or deformation at processing.
In general, the main stream of manufacturing method of FGM is thermal spraying method needed huge equipment. On the other hand, in case of the manufacturing method of FGM
by plating we developed, it is possible to manufacture the material having excellent thermal conductivity by using smaller quantity of diamond particles. Furthermore, extremely low manufacturing cost is another big advantage.
